UN to support Mongolia's industrial development
ULAN BATOR, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Kandeh K.Yumkella said here on Monday that UNIDO will support Mongolia's industrial development.
At a meeting with Mongolian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Gombojav Zandanshatar, Yumkella said Mongolia's economy has been developing rapidly during recent years and in order to realize sustainable and steady economic growth in the country, Mongolia should learn other country's development experiences especially those from China and India.
He said, in light of the large number of educated young people in the country, the Mongolian government should help train them as industrial technology talents to further contribute to Mongolia's industrial development.
Yumkella said Mongolia boasts rich mineral resources and a great number of domestic animals, advising Mongolia to learn experiences from China and India in spheres including trade development, industrial specialization and deep processing of livestock products.
Earlier in the day, Mongolian Prime Minister Sukhbaatar Batbold received Yumkella at the State Palace. Batbold expressed gratitude for a study report on Mongolia's industrial development policies given by UNIDO, saying Mongolia and UNIDO will jointly implement many big programs based on the study report.
Driving by the mining boom, Mongolian economy has entered rapid development period. In 2011, Mongolian economy grew by 17.3 percent, Batbold said.
At the invitation of Mongolian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Gombojav Zandanshatar, Yumkella is on a three-day visit to the country from Sunday to Tuesday to discuss extensive technical cooperation programs with the Mongolian government.
So far, UNIDO has implemented over 80 programs worth 15 million U.S. dollars in Mongolia.
