PRIME MINISTER MEETS DR. BERNARD VALLAT

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ Mongolia's government realizes a policy on supporting the food, agriculture and light industrial sectors and the animal husbandry is one of the pillars of the country's economy and makes up the vast incomes in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), employment and export.


The Premier said it on Thursday during a meeting with Dr. Bernard Vallat, the Director-General of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) who is paying a visit. The government is implementing a state policy on herders, the "Mongolian livestock" national program and the "Five treasures" measure so that to make herders more professional and skillful, to protect livestock health and to prioritize the vaccination, and underlined an importance of collaborating with international organizations, he went on.

Mentioning again about the livestock health, the Premier hoped that the OIE would study and approve Mongolia's proposal on giving a "health region" status on the country's western region and declaring it on international arena.

In turn, Dr. Vallat said the world preferes now to consume pure natural products, and that the OIE is ready to cooperate with Mongolia in making the Mongolian meat healthier and in exporting the eco meat and meat products to the world market in times of price boost of organic products.

Dr. Vallat also said the OIE will send its experts to Mongolia by August this year, and will tackle the matter on declaring the western region as the healthy zone. He expressed satisfaction with a great attention Mongolia's government pays to refining upon the veterinary service, to protecting of the social health, to ensuring the food safety.
