ABOUT POLITICAL PARTIES AND COALITIONS TO PARTICIPATE IN ELECTION

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ The election of the Citizens' Representative Khural of Ulaanbaatar city will run among nine political parties and two coalitions.

Proposals to run in the election to be held on the same day of parliamentary election have been made by the Mongolian People's Party (MPP), the Democratic Party, the Green Party of Mongolia, the Civil Will-Green Party, the Mongolian Conservative United Party, the Motherland Party, the United Party of Patriots, the Civil Movement Party, the Mongolian Social Democratic Party; the "Third Force" joint coalition of the Republican Party and the All-Mongolian Labor Party), and the "Justice" joint coalition of the Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party and National Democratic Party.

A decision has been by the General Election Commission (GEC) to allow them to participate in the election of the Citizens' Representative Khural of UB. In accordance with the law, 30 seats of the Citizens' Representative Khural will be taken through the majority system, whereas 15 seats--through proportional system.

Depending on the constituencies' population, the Songinokhairkhan and Bayanzurkh districts which have the largest number of people have six mandates each. Furthermore, the Chingeltei, Sukhbaatar, Bayangol and Khan-Uul districts have four mandates each; and Nalaikh, Baganuur and Bagakhangai districts--one mandate each.

The political parties and coalitions will start announcing their candidates until May 22.
