Scientific reading hall gets major facelift

The scientific reading hall at the Mongolian National Library has reopened after extensive renovations. 
First opened in 1961, the renovations were made possible with a contribution from President Ts.Elbegdorj. 

The reading hall will serve Mongolian and foreign scientists, university teachers, and research students. 

The President’s Office donated over 1000 dictionary pamphlets and books related with Mongolian history. 

Teacher Sh.Choimaa said, “The root of human development is in books and the writing culture. Our Mongol nation ancestors had a desire to introduce the favor of wisdom to the nation all the time. We pass this responsibility to our next generation” 

During the event, the Fund of Khaad NGO donated a 17-volume-book about the history of all Khaans of Mongolia, from Modu Chanyu to the 8th Bogd Javzandamba.

The latest audio and video technology will be installed in the hall. The book collection will also be upgraded and modernized.

National Library of Mongolia, the largest and oldest library in the country, was founded in 1921 under the Institute of Sutra and Scripts, with a mere 2,000 books. The purpose of the National Library of Mongolia, according to its Rules of Organization and Operation, is “to collect and preserve manuscripts, sutras, academic degree dissertations, as well as books and periodicals that are published in Mongolia and significant foreign books and periodicals; to create a national bibliography; to serve efficiently the library users with the above material and to provide other public libraries with professional methodology, guidance and information.
